In 2007 I was commissioned by the guest editor Niall McGrath to write an article for Fortnight the Belfast magazine. When doing research for "The Hiberno-Hungarian Connection" Griffith and Joyce were the most important connections I could discover between these two countries situated so far away from each other, in two corners of Europe. Indeed, Joyce had many Hungarian connections and he identified Blooms origins in the Hungarian small town of Szombathely. Bloom's father was a Hungarian Jew, born in 42 The Square in Szombathely, which is now Bloom-Haz, the focal point of the Bloomsday celebrations every year. We shot the documentary "Bloom Mystery" in both locations, Dublin and Hungary, to pinpoint another layer, another timeline of this wonderful work of fiction that celebrates and pays salute to the ordinary man.
